TEACHER BIOGRAPHIES
Chris Bentley
Kiger Island, Oregon
Botanical printing combines historical methods of natural dyeing with contact print techniques. The images and colors come only from plant pigments and earth minerals, resulting in unique plant portraits. This work draws inspiration from the objects I observe and collect outdoors - a lifelong fascination, reflecting my values: live lightly on the earth, pay attention, and learn to understand natural systems.

Anne Marie Cole

Anne Marie Cole grew up in Boston Massachusetts as the elder child of two professional classical musicians. She spent her childhood taking violin and piano lessons, attending art classes and having the privilege of seeing her parents perform on a regular basis. Surrounded by art and music, Anne Marie has had a love of fibers ever since she was a young girl. From playing with her grandmother's opera gloves and sequin dresses to learning how to knit from her Tante Annemarie, Anne Marie became enamored with fibers! She learned how to needle felt about 20 years ago, just after she became a Waldorf Kindergarten Teacher. Anne Marie has been creating human and animal puppets for many years and started teaching others the art of needle felting about 5 years ago. Anne Marie also has a small business selling her creations and lives in the country with her dog, cat, garden and son where she delights in hearing the creek by her window and staging her creations for photos outside in nature.

Stephanie Craig
Dayton, Oregon
anqati tÉ™mtÉ™m tÉ™nas siyaxus na nim. Her traditional name translates to old soul young eyes, and her American name is Stephanie Craig. Stephanie’s Mother’s maternal people are Santiam and Yoncalla Kalapuya, Takelma Rogue River, and Cow Creek Umpqua tribes from southern Oregon and the Willamette Valley. Stephanie’s maternal Grandmother’s paternal people were Wakanasisi Lower Chinook, Clackamas Chinook, Wasco, Chehalis, Mohawk and Metis from northwestern and Columbia River Plateau in Oregon, western Washington and Canada. Stephanie’s Father’s people are bostons, or American.
She’s a 7th generation traditional basket weaver, traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) and lifeways practitioner, culture keeper and bearer. She uses TEK methods, ancestral knowledge, archaeological methods and traditional plant fibers to create, revive and awaken centuries old art and way of life, basketry. Her 3rd and 4th great Grandmothers were renowned master basket weavers. Stephanie is inspired by them and other weavers; even though they were forced from their way of life into an unknown colonized new world, they continued their traditional lifeways that the settlers purchased as collectible art. Stephanie’s motivation comes from her children, her Tribe and her community.

Kiko Denzer
Philomath, Oregon, just below the shoulders of tcha Timanwi (now Mary's Peak), where the Kalapuya went to escape the glacial floods that made the valley what it is today!
When I was ten, I started helping my mom with some of her art jobs, working with kids to make murals and demonstrating crafts. When she wrote a book called Making Things, I put together the index. She used to quote Aristotle: “what we learn to do, we learn by doing.” That’s pretty much how my life has gone, how I teach, and what folk schools are all about. I love helping people get started, but hands, eyes, heart, and materials do the rest. I’ve been building ovens and teaching natural building and green woodworking for a long time now! I also make and sell wooden wares for home and garden.
