WOVEN BANDS ON A BACKSTRAP RIGID HEDDLE LOOM
WITH CAROLINE FEYLING
This class consists of 3 Monday evenings (class in session)
November 3rd, 10th, and 17th
5:30 - 8:30 pm (3 hours each day, 9 hours total)
Handwoven bands can be so much more than trim or decoration. Bands woven on the rigid heddle date back hundreds of years in Scandinavia. Historically they were used for everything from hair ties, to rope, or even horse reins!
Explore the beautiful yet utilitarian world of band weaving with Scandinavian weaver, textile artist, and teacher, Caroline Feyling. Over the course of three sessions, students will learn to weave plainweave bands on a backstrap style rigid heddle. In class we will weave a sample along with two longer bands between 36 and 90 inches in length. At the end of this class students will be able to design, set up, and weave plainweave bands independently.
This portable and beginner friendly technique is an excellent first foray into the world of weaving. A basic tool kit and materials will be provided by the teacher with the option to purchase additional weaving tools at the end of the class.
