MAKE A WOODEN RAKE

WITH KIKO DENZER

Friday to Sunday, April 17th to 19th, 2026:

Friday, April 17th, 5:30 - 8:30pm

Saturday, April 18th, 9:00am - 5:00pm

Sunday, April 19th, 9:00am - 5:00pm

Oak teeth, hazel handle — this class includes a trip to harvest material and an exploration of land-tending. We’ll begin with a Friday evening introduction to tools and techniques as applied to the production of the rake’s teeth. Saturday we’ll harvest and prep handles for bending, and continue making teeth. Sunday we’ll prep heads, insert teeth, assemble the components, and finish our rakes. The rakes themselves are wonderfully light and maneuverable; they work well for leaves, mulch, and many garden chores, and are absolutely indispensable if you work with a scythe.

This class is supported in collaboration with Sustainable Northwest, a regional non-profit that brings people, ideas, and innovation together so that nature, local economies, and rural communities can thrive. In 2026, Tarweed Folk School and SNW are facilitating classes that get students into the woods to experience models of sustainable land stewardship, learn to harvest materials responsibly, and bring harvested material back to the classroom to make something useful.
