SOFT FIBER TWINED BASKETRY

WITH ELI AND BEN GOODWIN

Sunday, November 8th, 2026

10:00am - 2:00pm

From the swamps of the world emerges a hero. Green, mean, and determined. You might ask “who is this hero?” and the answer, of course, is Juncus. Weavers around the world and throughout time have been drawn by its ease of harvest, uniform length, and incredible strength to make cordage, baskets, and other useful things. In this class, students will make a small vessel from juncus and other fibrous plants that can be commonly found in the wetlands and neighborhoods of our Willamette Valley. Skills introduced will include applications of plaiting and twining, and the know-how to harvest your own material from your neighborhood ditch or riparian area.
