SHARP TOOLS MAKE FOR BETTER WORK

WITH KIKO DENZER

This class offers two sessions on Sunday, March 8th, 2026:

Session 1 (morning): 9:00am - 12:00pm

Session 2 (afternoon): 1:00 - 4:00pm

This class will help you sharpen just about any tool, just about anywhere. If your friend’s best kitchen knife is making sauce of the tomatoes you brought for salad, you can put an edge on the blade with a coffee cup! Make your friend happy, and impress them with your skill and creativity!

No matter what you’re cutting, a sharp tool makes any work go easier and better. A sharp blade produces smooth action, no chatter, and more control (which means less risk of cutting yourself, but if you do slip, cuts from a sharp blade heal faster and better!) A good blade finish leaves wood surfaces smoother than sandpaper.

Learning and practicing simple principles of geometry will enable you to effectively and quickly sharpen any kind of edge tool. Jigs and accessories can help, but they aren’t necessary, and you don’t need to invest a small fortune in “the right kind” of hone. From simple sandpaper to diamonds, it all works!

Students will go home with their own sharpening kit. We’ll also cover some basics about what makes a good tool, why some are easier to sharpen than others, why some edges last longer — and why you shouldn’t just throw them all in a kitchen drawer!

Age Requirement: we are committed to supporting parents who want to build competence and capacity in their kids. If it doesn’t go according to plan, however, parents are, of course, responsible for taking care of situations as they arise, even if that means forfeiting their own time.
