BUILD A THREE LEGGED STOOL
WITH DUNCAN ELLINWOOD AND ROSE HOLDORF
Friday evening - Sunday, July 11-13th, 2025 (2.5-day class)
Friday: 5:30 - 8:30 pm (3 hours)
Saturday: 9am - 4pm (7 hours)
Sunday: 9am - 4pm (7 hours)
Learn the basics of woodcarving, mortise and tenon joinery, and furniture design with this simple, hand-carved 3 legged stool. Over two and a half hard working days, students will use both traditional and contemporary techniques to layout and drill angled mortises, carve stool legs and fit tapered tenons, sculpt a concave seat using gouges and a mallet, join the components together with glue and wedges, and discuss the properties of milkpaint, with the option at the end of class (as time allows) to paint your bespoke stool using an age old technique. In the true spirit of the Scandinavian term slöjd, this class celebrates the joy of working with your hands and surrounding your home--piece by piece--with handmade craft.
