BUILD A SOLAR OVEN AND COOK WITH SUNSHINE

WITH LORRAINE ANDERSON

Saturday, June 27th, 2026

10:00am - 1:00pm

Cooking seasonal, local, organic, whole (SLOW) foods using only the energy of the sun is a brilliant way to love ourselves and our planet. It offers an emissions-free alternative to turning on the oven when it’s too hot to cook. Imagine making healthy and yummy dishes like green bean pesto, quinoa tabouli, veggie lasagna, and beet brownies without heating up the kitchen!

In this beginning solar cooking class, students will build a simple cardboard solar cooker and learn the basics of how to use it all summer long. They will glean tips and techniques for best results and get an award-winning cookbook offering tasty recipes that use ingredients from the garden or farmers market.

Come prepared to taste some sun-cooked foods and join a community of people around the world who are taking solar power into their own hands. The class will reconvene on July 12th (two weeks after the first class) for a potluck lunch where we will share successes and troubleshoot problems.
