BUILD YOUR OWN SHAVING HORSE

WITH ROSE HOLDORF

Friday to Sunday, July 17th to 19th, 2026:

Friday, July 17th, 5:30 - 8:30pm

Saturday, July 18th, 9:00am - 5:00pm

Sunday, July 19th, 9:00am - 5:00pm

Shaving horses are useful tools for any woodcarver, and paired with the drawknife it is a favorite tool in the shop! Throughout the long weekend, students will work together to build a shaving horse for each participant out of dimensional lumber. Students will learn about and discuss different types of horses, mules, and ponies and their diverse uses. This class is a great opportunity for newer woodworkers to gain the skills and confidence to use a wide array of tools, or for more experienced woodworkers to pick up some tips and go home with a new tool of their own to make chairs, spoons, and other handmade wooden delights.

This class is designed to prioritize students taking home a finished project, so some components and materials will be prepared ahead of time. It is a small class size so students can expect a lot of one-on-one time with the teacher. Be prepared to work hard and have lots of fun building this lifelong and handy tool!
