PLAINWEAVE BANDS IN A DAY

Handwoven bands can be so much more than trim or decoration. Bands woven on the band heddle date back hundreds of years in Scandinavia. Historically they were used for everything from hair ties, to rope, or even horse reins!
Explore the beautiful yet utilitarian world of band weaving with Scandinavian weaver, textile artist, and craft instructor, Caroline Feyling. In this one-day intensive, students will learn to backstrap weave plainweave bands on a grindvev (band heddle). We will weave a short sample, along with a longer band between 36 and 72 inches in length that students can complete at home. By the end of this class, students will be able to design, set up, and weave plainweave bands independently.
This portable and beginner friendly technique is an excellent first foray into the world of weaving. A basic tool kit and materials will be provided by the teacher with the option to purchase additional weaving tools at the end of the class.
Class Details
Age Requirement: this class is for adults and youth 14-17 if their parent or guardian is also registered for the class.
Location: Wade Hardware (400 SW 2nd St)
Students bring: all tools and materials provided. Lighting in the classroom can be dim, students may wish to bring a headlamp for detail work.
