NATURAL DYEING: MORDANTING YOUR FIBERS

WITH CHRIS BENTLEY AND MADELAINE CORBIN

Friday & Saturday, October 2-3th, 2026

Friday 5:30 - 8:00pm

Saturday 10:00am - 2:00pm

Learn how to prepare cloth for natural dyeing! Dive deep into the crucial step of mordanting by preparing your own cloth for the dye pot. On the first day, participants will learn about different mordant types and practice balancing recipes for plant and animal fibers. While waiting on our fibers, we will make mordant paints to create patterns in cloth. On the second day, we will continue our discussion of the natural dye process and we will dye our fibers!

This class is ideal for anyone interested in the art and science of natural dyes and digging into the mordant process. Participants will leave with swatches documenting their results and a pair of patterned napkins they paint and dye.
