BEGINNING BASKETRY FOR YOUTH

WITH MARTA CAPRILES

Students will learn to make a melon or egg-style basket using willow, red-twig dogwood, and flat reed from start to finish. Many basketry skills will be covered including hoop-making, binding, rib fitting, and tapestry weave. Each student will have the opportunity to tailor their basket to their own aesthetic and will take home their very own functional basket, as well as resources and tips on how to purchase or harvest their own materials to make more!


Age Requirement: this class is for youth only, ages 10-18.

Students bring: a journal and pencil to take notes, clothes that can get wet or dirty, a hat, water bottle, and sack lunch.
