CLAY: MARKS, METHOD, M'HISTORY
WITH TEIYA INOKUMA
Do you feel drawn to symbols, markings, shape/design, ancestral origins, story and methods? This interactive gathering will come together to explore clay as a resource and the deep mysteries of how markings arise from us onto the surface of clay and why they may be meaningful within the context of history in the makings.
This is a process-oriented exploration of clay/marks and expression through prompts in curious exploration and play with the medium of clay. Clay history will be touched on as a resource. The intention of this class is to experience methods of stirring the creativity within us, follow threads of possible ancestral origins to finding your "visual voice". If you have tended to feel drawn to the medium of clay but have not found many classes that speak to your "out of the box" curiosities in exploring the medium, this may tickle your creative reserves.
Students will meet for two consecutive afternoons to explore finding your creativity process through handwork with clay, using writing/verbal prompts providing an immersive conversation with the material without the expectation of a finished object. I will provide one “bisque firing” of up to 3 pieces per person that are mindfully chosen by the student, to be returned at a later date. A how-to firing methods at home print-out will also be included for further exploration of pit firing, etc.
Age Requirement: this class is for adults 18 years and older.
