Students will bring an apron or towel, sharp knife or scissors, awl if you have one, any special shells, buttons, etc. that you might want to add to your basket.

In this class, students will learn about traditional lifeways, culture, traditional ecological knowledge, see samples of traditional foods, medicine and fiber plants. There will also be family belongings that have been passed down generations in Stephanie's family, as well as traditional tools. Students will learn multiple traditional weaving techniques, including starts and rims, and learn proper gathering, processing, cleaning, and storage methods. Students will work with raw western red cedar bark, learn to prepare for weaving, and will complete and take home a finished woven square cedar basket by the end of the class.
Age Requirement: 15 and older. Youth 15-17 must be accompanied by a parent of guardian also registered for the class. All students should come prepared to listen and follow verbal and visual instructions, and have nimble hands and fingers, as well as patience.
